Here are some process images from this page. My pencils are very loose (I suppose my inks are loose as well). I try to leave things open sometimes so I have room to play with the colors. I started doing this with lots of the wooded backgrounds. It saves time and I also get a bit more depth “painting” the backgrounds in Photoshop. Especially if the background needs to indicate some sense of distance.

Of course, none of that is going on here. Just clear skies. Which is even easier.

Incidentally, those wooden manikins you buy for figure reference that seem to be useless for getting into lifelike poses? They actually really handy when trying to put a clunky suit of armor in an awkward it’s-controlled-by-a-kid-inside pose.
