Well, that’s Chapter 2!
I’ve been debating for a while about Patreon, going back and forth about the pros and cons and shouldn’t I and why shouldn’t I …. I’ve finally landed on giving it a try. I haven’t worked out all the details but what it does is let those of you who want to help support William the Last do so and get a little something in return. Early updates, sketches, commissions, free digital goodies…I don’t know exactly what all the rewards will be. Essentially, Patreon allows people to become patrons of artists they like (kind of like back in the day when artists were supported by someone better off than they were so they could work on their craft and not have to milk cows for a living.)
Though I’m not above milking cows.
Anyway, hopefully this may free me up to focus on William a little more and maybe pay for my website/server etc…who knows. I have modest goals. I’ll let you know more details when I hash it all out.
See you next week!
Patreon looks like a great idea. Although I don’t have the pro experience that you do, I find myself in the same situation as you insofar as promotion is concerned. I published a webcomic last year (ROADFROGS), started a facebook page, listed it on Top Web Comics, talked it up a little on my blog and still only got 24 likes on facebook and ZERO on wordpress.com! I’ve got another webcomic starting up soon and, after seeing your comments about Patreon (of which I’d never heard before this), I’m considering signing up too.
BTW, I’m loving this comic. It is one of my faves, along with “Red’s Planet” (which Eddie Pittman has had to abandon due to some undisclosed “exciting things” that are upcoming, “Tuki” by Jeff Smith and “The Only Living Boy” by David Gallaher & Steve Ellis. It’s funny, all four strips have different looks and different styles of storytelling, but I find them all equally enjoyable. And inspiring to me an as aspiring writer and artist. I hope Patreon works out for you so that you can afford to devote the necessary time to this project.
Hi Robert!
Promotion is really hard. There’s so much online that you’re trying to stand out from. I guess sticking with something over the long haul is the best bet.
Oops, I messed up the html link. I only meant to have the word ROADFROGS live, not rest of the post following the title. Sorry.
